Cube Lynx – The Company Working To Hire Neurodiverse Talent

Who are CubeLynx?
CubeLynx are a corporate finance boutique providing financial advice and modelling for renewables, utilities, infrastructure and property projects.
They support both public and private sector clients and deliver tailored solutions to help clients deliver on projects.
What is their social mission?
As well as delivering great work, Cube Lynx have a mission to employ financial modellers who are neurodiverse, particularly those that are autistic. Mayur, the founder of Cubelynx, realised that there was a huge untapped talent pool of financial modellers within the Autistic community and wanted to create a business to provide these exceptional people with meaningful careers.
“Creating a neurodiverse culture is central to the ethos at CubeLynx, who understand that employing people who think differently makes good business sense. They recognise that autistic people, in particular, can have skills and abilities suited to financial modelling, such as a logical thinking style and strong attention to detail. Working with CubeLynx to recruit talented autistic candidates into an environment where they can thrive and progress has been a positive experience” – Employer Engagement Manager – The National Autistic Society
While the awareness and knowledge of neurodiversity has improved in recent years, it is said that the unemployment rate for autistic people hasn’t improved in the last decade. According to a survey from The National Autistic Society, over 65% of all autistic adults are unemployed in the UK.
Their mission in action
Cubelynx hired Jordan, their first autistic financial modeller in August 2020. Jordan said he had applied for 50 – 100 finance roles after graduating with a degree in Economics from Manchester Metropolitan University 6 years ago. Despite the amount of applications, Jordan was consistently rejected and given feedback that he wasn’t “enthusiastic enough”.
In response to this feedback, Jordan said that “It’s natural for me to not be as expressive as other people; my body language, my facial expressions and whatnot,” he says. “To have that as the reason was a bit of a kick in the teeth.”
Unfortunately, this is the reality for many neurodiverse job-seekers in the UK and beyond. Employers often base their decisions on how good at communicating or how confident a candidate is, which often puts their neurotypical counterparts ahead of them.
