
Hydrographic Surveyor
Job Profile Summary: As a Hydrographic Surveyor you will join an international team of 15 surveyors based across bp operating regions worldwide. The bp survey team support all of bp positioning and spatial data acquisition projects across all our energy projects therefore the team is critical to our energy transition ambitions and will give you the opportunity to participate in projects across Offshore wind, Carbon capture, Solar and traditional energy. Job Advert About the role: As a Hydrographic Surveyor you will continually strive to deploy new technologies in projects and will lead the way with the application of remote acquisition technologies, remote operations, new remote sensing and measurement techniques.
The position will be based in bp offices in Sunbury or Aberdeen however you should expect to participate in offshore operations when required. Some of your key accountabilities will include: Reporting to the Survey Operations Manager. Seeking expertise, continually learning, and developing safety & risk management skills Supervising and assuring the survey and positioning activities on assigned offshore construction, inspection and / or site survey projects undertaken by company. Ensuring contractors adhere to safety processes and execute projects in line with approved procedures in the offshore scenario. Assisting in provision of technical advice and technical expertise to solve survey related questions or problems within the team. Assisting in project preparation including logistical planning and execution. Reviewing operations within area of expertise to determine technical compliance to project requirements. Monitoring quality of field reports from survey vessels. Reviewing final reports from contractors. Participating in offshore operations and ensuring contractors adhere to safety processes and execute projects in line with approved procedures. Liaising with Data Management team to ensure contractor data deliveries are aligned with GIS / reporting requirements & formats.
About you: In addition to holding a Bachelor’s Degree in geodesy, land surveying, hydrographic survey, topographic or mapping science you will also demonstrate: Previous survey, positioning & geospatial experience within the land or subsea sector and will ideally have prior experience of working offshore. Computer literacy, including use of Auto Cad, and Microsoft Office Suite software. It would be beneficial if are also able to: Understand & use of Geographic Information Systems (GIS – ESRI Preferable)Act as part of a team, take and act upon instructions. Deal effectively with pressure and conflicting priorities. Demonstrate ability to consistently meet deadlines. Openly face challenges with confidence and adopt ‘can do’ attitude. Recognise potential consequences of decisions on other activities and consults accordingly.
