Mobile QA Tester
We’re looking for an experienced Mobile Quality Analyst to join our team who is keen to help us roll out a future proof company-wide QA strategy . You’ll play a pivotal role in helping your cross-functional team ship high quality, beautiful, business critical features. You understand the need for tested, resilient code balanced against the need to move fast and iterate.
We’re building a bank for and with our users. A product that’s fair, transparent and a pleasure to use. We see ourselves as something more than a typical current account: we’re setting out to solve all the problems that exist around your financial life in a coherent, meaningful and delightful way.
You’ll be working on a product that is a part of day to day life for millions of people already, and your work here will shape the way that people interact with their finances.
We have a small team of QA analysts focused on mobile testing, embedded in cross-functional teams that deliver fully functional features
There are currently 4 QA testers at Monzo and we’re looking for some more to join the team. We are very proud of having a lean QA team that is just as versatile as our product. We have a diverse background and we care more about your skills and experience than your formal qualifications (although it’s also awesome if you have those too).
What you’ll be doing
You will be empowered to make sure that user facing changes are tested appropriately, while balancing our need to deliver fast with our need to deliver high quality products. This role is all about maintaining that balance to ensure the teams you work in deliver quality.
You’ll Do This By
- Deciding on the best automated testing strategy (we want to ship safely but we don’t want to spend too much time on fixing flaky tests either)
- Helping and motivating your team to execute the relevant tests (manually and automated). You can jump in when needed but you won’t be doing lots of hands on testing yourself as part of your day to day job
- Distributing the testing effort in the team
You’ll get involved early in the product life-cycle, and help engineers decide which parts of a new feature need to be tested and when
You’ll need to become a core part of a multidisciplinary team that delivers Monzo magic – you’ll have the opportunity to have impact on both what we build, and how we build it.
What Teams You Could Work In
Your mission will depend on your team, but currently QA engineers are working on the core personal banking experience, paid products, lending products, business banking and internal operations.
You’ll report to an engineering manager or a QA manager who will meet with you every week for a 1:1, their mission is to help you develop and grow as a key contributor.
Apart from your work in specialised product teams you’ll be part of our QA engineering discipline. Within our discipline you’re also responsible for: our weekly release (all the testers are on a rota to test the iOS and Android release), monitoring our UI test suite, and helping to develop a QA strategy that suits Monzo for the future.
What we’re looking for
We’re looking for QA testers with strong analytical skills who have moved beyond manual or automated testing into a QA Analyst role. You are now consistently scaling your impact in the teams you work in.
You Should Apply If
- You have experience with making and implementing strategic decisions in order to improve QA outcomes in your team
- You have experience testing mobile applications in a fast delivering growth environment
- You are a hands-on, independent product tester with experience working in a multi-disciplinary product squad
- Your written communication skills are superb, especially around technical subjects
- You have experience in setting up processes and getting a team to follow them in order to deliver quality products
- You are obsessed with products and the customer experience they create
- You are deeply pragmatic and adept at prioritising: you understand the trade off between velocity and perfection
- You have some automated testing experience – we aren’t fussed about which language this was in
- You enjoy digging into complex technical issues until you’ve captured the root cause
- You’re not phased by technical problems
You will be in control and on top of everything that’s going on, without doing all the testing yourself. You’re good at prioritising a long list of demands based on business impact. You enjoy driving ways of working and testing processes in a multidisciplinary team.
A Bit About Monzo
We are actively creating an equitable environment for all of our engineers to thrive
Diversity and inclusion are a priority for us and we are making sure we have lots of support for all of our people to grow at Monzo. All of our leaders are trained on privilege awareness and we are creating partnerships with organisations dedicated to supporting underrepresented groups. You can read more in our 2020 Diversity and Inclusion report .
We encourage an open and transparent working environment
You can get involved in any aspect of the business you are interested in and, following Stripe’s example, all emails in the company are visible in an email archive. We default to transparency and prefer to communicate openly in Slack rather than by email or in DMs. Our blog is an excellent place to learn even more about what we do!
Monzo works in project-based sprints in small, interdisciplinary teams
We have just shy of 300 engineers out of roughly 2,300 people in total – and we have big ambitions. There are many interesting challenges ahead, and we’re happy for people to move between teams or to specialise, whatever you prefer. As an engineer here you’d be able to work directly with anyone across the company, and we run regular knowledge-sharing sessions so you’ll learn heaps about everything from how banks work to effective communication.
Our apps
At Monzo, you’ll get to work with industry standard tools and technologies – and help us define what great looks like for Android engineers.
Our Android app is almost 100% Kotlin and Kotlin Compose, built using MVVM (Model View ViewModel) and Coordinators , and modularised by product feature. Our iOS App is 100% Swift. Our end to end UI testing frameworks are XCUITest and Espresso.
Compensation
Our salary range for the role is £47,000 to £67,000 per annum depending on experience, plus stock options and other benefits including study leave with a learning budget, flexible hours, parental leave etc. We also provide all of our engineers with the latest MacBook (M1).
Logistics
This role can be based distributed/remote anywhere within the UK, or in our London office. It’s also possible to join as office based and move to distributed after you’ve joined or the other way around.
We can help you relocate to the UK & we can sponsor visas.
We offer flexible working hours and trust you to work enough hours to do your job well, at times that suit you and your team. One of the QA testers is working compressed hours (full time over four days) and another tester is full time remote.
Diversity and inclusion is a priority for us – if we want to solve problems for people around the world, our team has to represent our customers. So we need to attract the best talent and create an environment that supports and includes them. You can read more about diversity and inclusion on our blog .

We promise not to ask you any brain teasers or trick questions. We might design a solution together on a whiteboard, the same way we often work together, but we won’t make you write code on one.
Equal Opportunity Statement
At Monzo, embracing diversity in all of its forms and fostering an inclusive environment for all people to do the best work of their lives with us. This is integral to our mission of making money work for everyone.
