Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder is a neurodevelopmental condition that affects how the brain regulates attention, impulse control, motivation and executive function. It is not a lack of effort or an inability to focus, it is a different way of processing the world.
ADHD affects an estimated 1 in 20 people in the UK and presents differently in everyone. Some people experience predominantly inattentive traits. Others experience hyperactive or impulsive traits. Many experience both. ADHD is also significantly underdiagnosed, particularly in women, girls and people from minoritised communities.
