“I’m Neurodivergent and Feel Stuck in My Life & Career” – A Guide to Getting Unstuck
We’ve all been there. Feeling stuck is a common experience, especially for neurodivergent individuals navigating life’s unique challenges. The pressures from everyday life – whether at home, work, or school can be overwhelming…The good news? Enna are here to help!
There are ways to get unstuck and rediscover your momentum. Here’s advice and lessons from our in-house Neurodiversity experts:
Movement
When you feel stuck, movement might be the last thing on your mind. Yet, it’s the key to avoiding stagnation. Movement is beneficial for neurodivergent people because it can enhance cognitive function, reduce stress, and improve overall mental well-being by providing sensory regulation and boosting mood.
Movement doesn’t have to be grand. Start with a walk, try a new hobby, or rearrange your workspace. Each small movement helps you break free from inertia and propels you towards inspired action.
Sit with Yourself
In our digital age, we’re constantly bombarded with distractions. Take a break from your phone, TV, and other sources of instant gratification. Spend time in quiet reflection. Ask yourself, “What have I put off due to procrastination or self-doubt?” Identify any unhealthy habits or coping mechanisms you’ve developed that may have contributed to you feeling stuck. This self-awareness is the first step in making positive changes.
Allow Yourself to Be Inspired
Inspiration often comes from new experiences and perspectives. Read a book, explore different online creators to refresh your algorithm with inspirational people, or get outside and visit a new place in your town. Whilst you’re out and about, engage in conversations with strangers. These experiences can provide fresh insights and motivate you to take action. Inspiration helps break the cycle of feeling stuck and opens you up to new possibilities.
Take Responsibility and Reassert Your Autonomy
Reflect on your past choices. What has worked well, and what hasn’t? For the things that haven’t worked, consider what changes you can make in future to avoid making the same mistakes. Using the insight you gain from this exercise, take inspired action (even in small ways) to reinforce your sense of autonomy and control over your life. Remember, you have the power to shape your journey.
Be Kind to Yourself
Lastly, be kind to yourself. The pressures of societal expectations can weigh heavily, especially for neurodivergent individuals. Recognise that your path might differ from others, and that’s perfectly okay. Embrace your unique strengths and find what works best for you. Give yourself the grace to grow at your own pace.
Feeling stuck doesn’t have to be permanent. By taking thoughtful steps and allowing yourself the freedom to explore and grow, you can find your way forward. Embrace the journey, trust in your capabilities, and remember that you are not alone. At Enna, we’re here to support you every step of the way.
