Neurodiversity Disclosure Statement: How to Use it and the Benefits
A disclosure statement is a document that allows neurodivergent employees to voluntarily share information about their disability or condition with their employer. It provides an opportunity for employees to explain how their condition may affect their work, and to request any adjustments they may need to perform their job effectively. Disclosure can be a challenging decision for many neurodivergent employees, but it can also be an important step towards accessing the support they need to succeed in the workplace.
Enna’s Disclosure Statement is a free download which will help you disclose, either within the recruitment process or as an employee in the workplace.

- Review and finalise. Once you have finished filling in the statement, review it to ensure it accurately reflects your needs and preferences. Make any necessary changes, then save the document.
- Decide how to disclose. You can choose to disclose your neurodivergence during the recruitment process, to your line manager or HR team. Choose the option that you feel most comfortable with.
- Follow up. After you disclose your neurodiversity, follow up to ensure that your needs are being met and any adjustments are in place. Be open to feedback and willing to collaborate to find solutions that work for everyone.
I’m a manager that’s been given a disclosure statement, how do I use it?
As a manager, receiving a disclosure statement from a neurodivergent employee can be an important opportunity to better support and accommodate them. Here are some steps you can follow to use the disclosure statement effectively:
- Review the disclosure statement: Take the time to carefully read and understand the information provided in the disclosure statement. Make note of any specific needs or adjustments that the employee has requested.
- Acknowledge the employee’s disclosure: Thank the employee for disclosing their neurodivergence and expressing their needs. Let them know that you appreciate their openness and willingness to work together to create a supportive work environment.
- Work with the employee to develop a plan: Collaborate with the employee to develop a plan that accommodates their needs and preferences. You can use our [Reasonable Adjustments Passport] to frame this conversation.
- Communicate with colleagues: With the employee’s permission, communicate relevant information to colleagues and team members, ensuring confidentiality and privacy as appropriate. This can help create a more inclusive and supportive work environment, as colleagues become better informed and equipped to support their neurodivergent colleagues.
- Follow up regularly: Check in with the employee regularly to ensure that the accommodations are working as intended and to address any concerns or challenges that arise. Be open to feedback and willing to make adjustments as necessary.
